A Common Thread

The most challenging problems I've ever encountered had one thing in common: no single discipline could fully explain them.

Legal questions depended on complex technical realities. Technical solutions created costly business consequences. Business decisions introduced nuanced legal risk. Every perspective offered an important piece of the picture, yet none could reveal the whole on its own.

The challenge wasn't a lack of expertise; it was recognizing that no single expert could solve the problem. Each one spoke with precision, but rarely in the same language. Over time, I came to realize that the best solutions are distributed across many minds rather than contained within one. Businesses need someone who can translate between roles.

No matter what industry I worked in, I found myself in this role. At first, I believed this was an obstacle to my career, but now I know it is the very essence of it.

Addressing these problems requires someone capable of both understanding and seeing beyond a single discipline. When legal, technical, and business considerations are viewed in isolation, important context is lost. The right direction becomes clearer when all perspectives can be considered together.

That philosophy became the foundation of my work over the course of my career—and is why this site exists.

A Perspective of My Own

The Blind Men and the Elephant

An ancient parable tells of several blind men encountering an elephant for the first time.

One feels the trunk and insists an elephant is like a snake.

Another touches the leg and argues it is like a tree.

Another grasps the tail and is convinced it resembles a rope.

Each perspective is valid, but none can see that it is merely one part of the whole.

Only when someone bridges the gaps between their perspectives can the elephant be fully understood by all.
